The 28-day sober challenge

It’s alcohol free month in January or February 2026 in Quebec!
A true tradition for thousands of Quebecers aged 18 and over, the 28-Day Sober Challenge is a social movement that has resonated across Quebec for 13 years.

The Initiative

For more than 10 years, Quebecers have been asked to take a break from alcohol throughout the month of January or February in support of Fondation Jean Lapointe. With a minimal contribution of $28, participants make it possible to finance Maison Jean Lapointe’s various addiction programs. Their commitment, as well as those of their sponsors and generous donors, are essential for the success of the campaign.

Why the 28-days Challenge?

Contrary to what one might think, the Challenge does not target total sobriety, but rather well-being and the balance of consuming moderately. In February, we suggest a pause to reflect and open the dialogue without taboos. Throughout these 28 days, we invite people to take some time to measure the impact of alcohol in their lives, while taking care of themselves and those around them. And the payoff? Looking after ourselves allows funds to be raised to support the addiction prevention and treatment programs of Maison Jean Lapointe.

Testimonies

« It is my first time doing the challenge, and I plan to continue after these 28 days. It allowed me to see the benefits of not drinking alcohol; it’s amazing how good I feel!!! »

« February is over, but I’m still going. I’m so happy with my alcohol-free month. No stress, no deadline. If I want a drink, I’ll do it, but right now, I don’t even feel the need. Incredible, I would never have believed this possible in January!»

« Who should I contact to file a complaint? I’m losing all my jeans; it’s indecent.»

« I feel rejuvenated, pimped out, and happy! What a wonderful achievement and what a wonderful gift to myself! And it continues! Where there’s a will, there’s a way! »
